The main examination method for ulcerative colitis (UC) is colonoscopy.

Colonoscopy can be used to understand the extent and extent of inflammatory lesions, and can also be used in the follow-up process after treatment.

On the basis of colonoscopy, clinical tests such as blood routine, CRP, inflammatory factors, procalcitonin, and fecal calprotectin can also be used to assist in the evaluation of the condition and efficacy.

For some patients with pelvic cavity or perianal complications such as ulceration, sometimes CT, MRI and other imaging examinations will be given.

The main goals of ulcerative colitis therapy (UC) are to control the acute episode, heal the mucosa, maintain remission, reduce recurrence, and prevent complications.

Ulcerative colitis is treated as follows:

1. Adjust diet and life rules:

Eat nutritious, clean, easy to digest less residue diet, avoid spicy stimulating food, avoid alcohol.

Take good rest, regulate your mood, take medication as prescribed and follow up regularly.

2. Control inflammatory reaction:

On the basis of multidisciplinary discussion (MDT), the doctor will give the appropriate treatment including 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA), glucocorticoids, immunosuppressants, infliximab and other drugs.

3. Symptomatic treatment:

Timely correction of water and electrolyte balance disorders, anemia patients actively blood transfusion, hypoalbuminemia patients actively supplement albumin.

For those with secondary infection, aggressive anti-infective treatment is usually required.

4. Surgical treatment:

Some patients complicated with gastrointestinal hemorrhage, intestinal perforation or toxic megacolon who failed to respond to active medical treatment and had severe toxemia symptoms, as well as patients complicated with colon cancer and unsatisfactory medical treatment, which seriously affected the quality of life, should be given surgical treatment as appropriate.

Laparoscopic total colectomy and ileal pocket anal anastomosis are the usual surgical methods.
